How Do I Deal With Thousands of Photos?

My inclination is to dive right in like a kid at Christmas! But this isn't practical for several reasons:

  1. I'm not sure how or where these were previously stored, and thus I don't know the age or condition of most of them.
  2. I probably cannot identify many of then without family help.
  3. I still must eat and sleep.

Given those issues, I have to figure out some temporary storage and cataloging system.

An old adage comes to mind:

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time :-)

While I envy you enormously for the treasure of photos and other materials you received, I don't envy you the job of organizing all of that!

Wow Craig, You have every genealogists dream (and maybe nightmare?). Let us know how you accomplish this monumental task..
maybe I can apply your methods to what now seems like a paltry number of old photos!
